Looking After Your Child's Teeth

You should take your child to the dentist as soon as possible. The earlier they start visiting the dentist, the more comfortable they will feel. They will get used to the surroundings, the people, and the sights and sounds of the dental practice.

This helps prevent your child from developing a fear of visiting the dentist.
If your child is very nervous about going to the dentist, talk to us about this. We have lots of experience with both children and adults who find dental treatment traumatic, and we can help your children feel more positive about their visits.

One of the best ways to help your children is to bring them for regular examinations. We can identify any decay or other problems at an early stage and administer the right treatment. Of course, training your child to brush regularly is vital. In the early years you can stand behind the child, holding the chin in one hand and brushing with the other, as the child faces a mirror. This way the child will learn, by example, a good brushing technique, and he or she will gradually be able to follow this technique independently.

There are no set ages at which children's teeth develop. It varies from child to child. But whatever their age the child's teeth need careful, twice daily brushing, a sensible diet, and regular check-ups. It is vital to instil good habits in the child as early as possible. That way they should grow up with a healthy mouth and a bright smile.
